Jeepster Beach
This may be the pick of the litter in terms of cool factor.
Based on a two-door Wrangler right down to the 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder under the hood (with 25 per cent more power than standard, for a total of 270 hp and 295 lb-ft), the Beach is designed to recall the Jeepster Commando of the late ‘60s. That model sat between the CJ and Wagoneer in the line-up, and received such niceties as an automatic transmission, doors, roll-up windows and roof, all of which were absent from the CJ of the era.
The Beach is unique to Moab in that it isn’t really a vehicle that’s been designed to be a rock-crawl champ; instead, it’s been designed to recall fun days at the beach (no surprise there) and refreshing summer evening drives. The Hazy IPA exterior colour – yes, that’s actually what it’s called, for all the hipster beer aficionados out there -- speaks to that, as does the red-and-ivory interior and stickers on the dash upper. The chrome hood ties are a great touch. The Wrangler is already a very lifestyle-centric vehicle, but the Beach takes that feeling to the nth degree and you can easily see it bouncing down the California coast with surfboards hanging out the back. A modern, more practical interpretation, really, of what a dune buggy is today.
To help with all your beachcombing needs, there are 35” tires and a 4:1 transfer case. The carpets have also been removed to make ridding the Beach of fine California sand deposits a breeze.
