After studying journalism way back in the paleosomething age, Derek proceeded to use none of that acquired knowledge for many years. The pull of the written word proved strong, however, and the writer in him came alive again when he joined the team at Auto123.com in Spring 2009. In early 2019, Derek took the position of Managing Editor of the Auto123 website; he has been Editor in Chief since 2023.
