The car should have a range of nearly 1,000 km and 0-100 km/h acceleration time of two seconds

Tesla has made a quite a name for itself since its founding, and with reason. But one habit it has never quite shaken is that of rarely meeting the deadlines it sets for itself. The latest example is the Roadster model. When the Roadster was unveiled in 2017, the plan was for production to begin in… 2020.

Obviously, Tesla is not there with its new Roadster.

Tesla boss, Elon Musk, in a podcast-style interview with Joe Rogan last Thursday, said the debut of the new Roadster would be postponed to allow the company to focus on more-pressing projects, according to a Reuters report.

Asked when the Roadster model might see the light of day, Musk responded that the “Roadster is kind of like dessert. We gotta get the meat and potatoes and greens and stuff.”

The more-pressing projects referred to include the production of the Model Y, the construction of a vehicle factory in Germany and the start of production of the Cybertruck pickup from another planet.

Since the latter model is not due to be ready for sale before the end of 2021, this means that production of the Roadster will begin no earlier than 2022. In addition, Tesla has also promised a semi-trailer truck. Last week, the firm announced that the Roadster's debut would be delayed until 2021. When it was unveiled in 2017, Tesla had talked about a production start in 2019.
