Formula Tour 1600 organizers have announced their drivers would be putting TOYO Proxes R88 on their cars next year, rather than the Dunlop tires they got used to in the past.

The decision to drop Dunlop was made easy by on-track testing, overseen by LM la Scuderia at Sanair. The conclusion drivers Michel and Olivier Bonnet came to was that the R888 was around six tenths of a second per lap (over a 53-second lap) faster. Considering the tires will also be cheaper (around $585 for a set of four), the deal was a no brainer for the officials.

“The TOYO [offers] better stability under braking than [the] Dunlop […] and the consistency during the testing day was pretty good,” concluded the Bonnet duo.

Furthermore, the only change drivers will have to operate on their cars is related to the camber angles of the wheels. Whether they will have to adapt their driving style or not is another matter.

No announcement has yet been made regarding the tire used in wet conditions. But, the promising characteristics of the ‘V’-shaped groves in the R888 indicate it should also be very good in the rain.
