Mark Wilkins saved his best for last Saturday at New Jersey Motorsports Park (NJMP), winning the pole for Sunday's Supercar Life 250. Wilkins tamed the 2.25-mile Thunderbolt Raceway layout with a lap of 1:11.761 late in the 15-minute session, good enough to capture his second pole position of the season.
Second, with a lap of 1:12.023 was three-time 2008 pole winner Michael Valiante from British Columbia. Joey Hand qualified third at 1:12.028, in the No. 23 Ruby Tuesday Championship Racing Team Porsche Riley that was fastest in all four qualifying sessions at the brand-new circuit. He will be joined on the second row by Jon Fogarty, who ran a lap of 1:12.111 in the No. 99 GAINSCO/Bob Stallings Racing Pontiac Riley co-driven by Alex Gurney.
Sellers Porsche Paces GT Qualifying
New Jersey Motorsports Park principal RJ Valentine wanted to see his car up near the front for the circuit's inaugural event, so he had co-driver Bryan Sellers drive the No. 68 TRG Porsche GT3 car in qualifying. Sellers responded by running a lap of 1:19.024 to lead GT qualifying.
Seller's Porsche was followed by four Pontiacs in the session. Andrew Davis ran his best lap at the end of the session in the No. 57 Stevenson Motorsports Pontiac GXP.R but came out a fraction of a second behind at 1:19.261 in his bid for his first pole of the campaign.
Points-leader Kelly Collins qualified his No. 07 Banner Pontiac GXP.R third with a time of 1:19.270. Collins will be joined on the second row by Patrick Barrett in the No. 32 PR1 Motorsports Pontiac GXP.R, 1:19.280.
