Nokian Hakkapeliitta 9 and LT3
If you consulted our guide to all-seasons and summer tires this past spring, you will have seen we highly recommend tires from Finnish manufacturer Nokian, in particular the Hakkapeliitta 9. Versions of these tires also exist for SUVs and crossovers. What’s more, the R3 tire (which is studless) is also produced in versions for these vehicle formats.
Still, the big news this year from Nokian is the arrival of the LT3 (the follow-up to the LT2), designed specifically for heavier pickup trucks as they are 8-ply or 10-ply. This new tire model can be had with studs.
By the way, at Nokian the stainless steel studs are factory-installed.
The same tire maker also produces other products for SUVs and light-duty pickups, such as the Nordman 7 tires that are in fact simply the older generation of the Hakkapeliitta. We have no hesitation in recommending these as well.
