Good news for open-wheel fans as Rahal/Letterman/Lanigan Racing will be back full-time in the IZOD IndyCar Series with a two-car lineup for the 2012 season.

“We’ve ordered two cars and we’re going forward with the plan of competing fulltime with the possibility of a third car at Indianapolis,” said Bobby Rahal, who partners with late-night show icon David Letterman and businessman Mike Lanigan.

Things are moving fast for the former CART champion as he is working to hire full-time people for the team as well as talking to a number of drivers.

RLLR is also on the brink of signing some serious sponsors that will back the team but it is too early to reveal anything at the present time.

Rahal has still not confirmed which engine manufacturer will be associated with his team but looking at the past history between Honda and Rahal, the match seems natural since he gave Honda its initial Indy win with Rice in 2004 and was Honda’s original CART team in 1994.

Meanwhile, Ed Carpenter, who scored a popular victory at Kentucky last month for Sarah Fisher Racing, is on the verge of announcing that he will have his own team sponsored by Fuzzy’s Vodka.
