As Auto123.com had already revealed back in August, the IndyCar Series has now officialy announced that the series would race on the streets of Qingdao in China next year.
Located between Beijing and Shanghai, Qingdao is a coastal city with a population of over 6 million that has been chosen to held a race on August 19, 2012.
Series chief Randy Bernard said teams and sponsors had been keen to see IndyCar racing in China as it has become a top priority with most American businesses and the sponsors that are committed to the series.
"Last year, at our sponsorship summit," Bernard said. "China was the number one place our sponsors wanted to go outside of the United States."
IndyCar's previous Asian events all took place at Japan's Motegi track, which dropped off the calendar after this season.
