The start of the Carbon Era!
Speed is not as important anymore, at least according to a September 14th manifesto signed by none other than Lamborghini SpA President and CEO Stephan Winkelmann.

In reality, the document was a funny and innovative way to announce the launch of a new concept this Thursday at the 2010 Paris Motor Show.

The French website blogautomobile.fr may have taken some of the mystery off with the release of a picture showing the "Sesto Elemento" (Italian for sixth element).

This early-stage version of the Murciélago’s successor will rely heavily on carbon fibre, the so-called sixth element in the few teasers that followed the Lamborghini manifesto.

Why carbon fibre? Allow Mr. Winkelmann to explain his company’s weight-saving concerns: "Speed is not as important anymore, because all super sports cars are exceeding 300 km/h (186 mph) and this is a speed that you cannot reach even on a racetrack, let alone normal roads. We think it is time to make a shift and talk more about handling and acceleration. The key factor in terms of better handling and acceleration, meaning more immediate pleasure in driving, is the power-to-weight ratio. That means the key is in reducing the weight."

Time to usher in the Carbon Era in Sant’Agata Bolognese. On Thursday, we’ll find out if the car actually bears the name Sesto Elemento…
