The T6 is a familiar name in the S80 line up as it used to be the big engine on the previous S80. For the new car, unveiled late last year as a 2007, the T6 will displace 3.0L and will develop 285hp and 295 lb/ft of torque.
This engine is based on Volvo's 3.2L I6. Volvo narrowed the 3.2L's cylinder bore and shortened the stroke however added a turbocharger. The T6 is programmed to provide maximum performance all the while keeping fuel consumption at a minimal level.
The charger itself is a twin-scroll design meaning that it takes exhaust gases in two stages effectively reducing turbo-lag and permitting the engine and turbo combo to be extremely responsive.
The T6, like the 3.2L and V8, will be mated to Volvo's Instant Traction AWD system exclusively.
No announcements have been made for Canada concerning the availability of this powertrain.
