Further validation of Mazda’s new premium approach

Which automaker makes the safest cars on the market? This year, it looks like that title goes to Mazda. Just ask the U.S. Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

Every 2017 Mazda vehicle tested by the reputable non-profit institution has been rated a “Top Safety Pick+” when equipped with optional front crash prevention systems and adaptive LED headlights.

To attain "Top Safety Pick+" honours, a vehicle must earn the highest rating of "Good" in five crashworthiness tests, an "Advanced" or "Superior" rating for front crash prevention and an "Acceptable" or "Good" headlight rating.

Mazda models tested by the IIHS for 2017 were the CX-9, CX-5, CX-3, Mazda3 and Mazda6. The MX-5 has not been tested.
