AJ Allmendinger, who was completing his second year in the NASCAR Sprint series with Red Bull Racing, will leave the squad with immediate effect. This was confirmed by the team today probably to make way for the next Red Bull protégé and ARCA series leader Scott Speed.
By the way, Speed is making today his first official Sprint Cup series test in a third Red Bull Toyota, labelled with the No.82.
The team have yet to name the driver who will replace Allmendinger at next weekend's event in Kansas but Mike Skinner could be called in as a replacement as he did in some races earlier this year.
The former Atlantic series champion and Champ car ace, meanwhile, is believed to be a candidate to replace Reed Sorenson at Chip Ganassi Racing.
