In a rain-shortened race, DJ Kennington won the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series finale Sunday, the Z-Line Designs 250, at the Kawartha Speedway confirming also Andrew Ranger’s 2009 title.

The race, which was supposed to be run on Saturday night, was postponed to Sunday because of the persistent rain. Things were still not looking good this morning as rain persisted.

Finally, the green flag was dropped and pole sitter Ron Beauchamps Jr took the lead followed by Andrew Ranger who only needed to start the race to confirm his 2009 title.

Shortly after the start, crews had to get back on the track to sweep some water off.

Up until lap 85, the lead became an affair only between Beauchamps and Ranger but on lap 136, Don Thomson Jr took over and from lap 170 on, the race would be fought harshly amongst DJ Kennington, Kerry Micks, Don Thomson Jr. and Scott Steckly who was closing in.

Then on lap 185, DJ Kennington took the lead for the final time from Kerry Micks and stayed on top all thru lap 200 when rain fell heavily on the track while there was a caution out.

The race was stopped on lap 203 with Kennington in front followed by Kerry Micks and Thomson Jr. Scott Steckly and Beauchamp Jr rounded up the top 5.

With the 2009 championship, Ranger has earned a secured starting spot in the NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown on Jan. 29-30, 2010 at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale (Calif.).
