If it's a big enough event, however, the folks in control of the NASCAR feed will flash an announcement across the screen suggesting you go to the main coverage channel.

Whatever's on those seven channels, it's never a commercial so you can stay connected to the race for its duration. It was surprising at how much more attention to the race than normal this allowed, since you're watch the track all the time. You quickly come to learn that, as well as being irritating in their own right, those commercials really interfere with the natural drama and cadence of the race.

By far the best way to watch the race involves the use of the cable system's picture-in-picture feature. This allows you to watch the full screen of the general race coverage with the full sound and announcer babble, and the in-car coverage of one driver in a smaller box with no sound, or have the general race coverage in the small box while you go around and around with one driver. Or, you can watch two drivers at once. The choice is yours, and that's a primary charm of the NASCAR In Car service.

This is the third season for the NASCAR In Car service, and it is definitely picking up steam with fans in Canada and the U.S.

For a precise cost quote on this service, you need to check with your cable provider because it depends upon what your current service is. Once you get to the right digital service, NASCAR In Car can be ordered separately for less than $200 a year or as part of a sports package that also includes MLB, the NFL, NCAA basketball, and other events.

Sadly, F1 is not offering a similar service this year, or it, too, would probably be on Rogers and maybe some other cable systems.

This kind of multi-channel service is old hat in parts of Europe, and not just with racing. England's highest soccer league has used it for years, for example.

For more information on this service, log on to your local cable's website (for prices as well as availability) or even the NASCAR site.
