ACDelco says that independent tests it commissioned on oil filters show that its new Ultraguard Gold premium-priced unit "produced the best results for consumers." According to Lisa Grassi, ACDelco's marketing manager for filters, spark plugs and fuel pumps, the tests were approved by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) and showed that the Ultraguard Gold "is the hardest-working filter on earth and the statistics bear that out."
In a modified version of the popular SAE test, Ultraguard Gold scored a 98 per cent single-pass efficiency rating for trapping particles 8-10 microns big, which is smaller than the diameter of a human hair.
Grassi calls this result "impressive" because it means that her filter caught all but two percent of the particles that passed through the filter the first time, which is a big improvement over the industry's average single-pass efficiency rating of 40 per cent for conventional filters and 72 per cent for premium filters.
Some of the filters that the Ultraguard Gold beat in these tests were the Wix Sport Truck, Fram Extraguard, Toughguard and DoubleGuard, PureOne, and Mobil 1. No other filter scored higher than the low-80s on the test.
