Jacques Villeneuve: "It has been a long time coming but today''s result is fantastic for the team. It was a very tricky race and to get both cars home in the points in those conditions is great for everybody. I''ve had a very good three days here; we just kept improving the car throughout every session. For the first time this season, we were confident that for once we didn''t have to rely on luck to be in with a chance of a points finish. We were actually competitive enough and the car and circuit really suited each other. 'We had two great pitstops and made the right tyre choices in very tricky conditions. The whole team worked incredibly well in the race so this result is a credit to the team."
The Race
From dry to wet and more, the race in Silverstone became a game of guessing the best tyre choice. Barichello who had to start from the back after a mechanical problem at the start only took about 15 laps to come right back to second place behind Michael Schumacher.
Schumacher took a step closer to winning the World Championship with his 60th career victory at a highly eventful British Grand Prix today at Silverstone. It was the German's seventh win of the year but unlike some of his other performances in previous events, it was anything but a straightforward victory with the arrival of rain throwing the order into chaos and sending cars all over the place.
Once the rain eased and the race settled Schumacher took control with his top-line Ferrari package and exceptional Bridgestone tyres. He was followed home by Rubens Barrichello, the Brazilian who stalled on the formation grid and had to start from the back but staged an excellent fightback. Third was poleman Juan-Pablo Montoya, who finished his first race since Austria.
The BAR Hondas scored the team's first points of the season with an excellent double finish of fourth and fifth led by Jacques Villeneuve. Jacques was excellent on wet track and completed the cascade in 4th position followed by Olivier Panis placing both BAR in the points for the first time this season.
