Montreal's Sport Compact Performance Autoshow is without question a can't-miss event for all tuning enthusiasts out there. Actually, it's the biggest tuning show in Canada, attracting tens of thousands of visitors and over 450 exhibitors. The SCP Autoshow has become an annual pilgrimage for chrome lovers, power addicts and accessory-craving drivers.

Therefore, it came as no surprise that General Motors chose this event for the Canadian debut of the all-new Chevrolet HHR SS.

A new heart
Under the hood of this high-performance machine is a turbocharged 4-cylinder Ecotec producing 260 horsepower. It's the same engine that already motivates the Pontiac Solstice GXP and Saturn SKY Red Line.

But the upgrades are not merely mechanical. The HHR SS sports new front and rear fairings, creating a much more prominent fascia. The delicate grille was designed to increase the air flow needed for the turbo. Also, it's hard to overlook the addition of a rear spoiler, 18-inch polished aluminum wheels and Michelin all-season performance tires.

Inside, the changes made by Chevrolet are plentiful and, in some cases, radical. The gauges have been altered and now display a top speed of 225 km/h. An additional gauge has been placed at the base of the left A-pillar, right before the driver's eyes, to allow him to carefully monitor the turbo pressure.

Pricing for the 2008 HHR SS has yet to be announced. Expect the car to arrive in Chevrolet showrooms early next year.
