At £295,000 (about $450,000), the limited-edition Hulme Can Am from New Zealand is the very definition of an exclusive automobile.

Named after Denny Hulme, the late race car driver and Formula One champion, the Hulme Can Am is an open-top, mid-engine, high-performance supercar with a 600-horsepower, 7.0-litre Chevrolet engine mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox (a sequential transmission is optionally available). Accelerations from 0 to 100 km/h are completed in 3.5 seconds while top speed is rated at 322 km/h. The whole car weighs less than 1,000 kilos.

Orders are now accepted, although potential buyers have to make a deposit of over $15,000 (fully refundable). Once the order is confirmed, each customer will get to specify trims and options in order to personalize the car. A photo album of the manufacturing process and a 1:8 scale model will complete the package upon delivery.

As is often the case, the Hulme Can Am will first hit the U.K. in 2011. There are no plans to sell the car in North America; in fact, no official homologation request has been submitted to Canadian authorities.
