262 hp, AWD and 2.7L/100km!
Volkswagen kicked off the Tokyo Motor Show with a bang by serving up the Cross Coupé concept, an AWD plug-in hybrid that looks like the love child of a four-door sports coupe and a compact SUV.

A 148 hp, 154 lb-ft TSI gas engine teamed up with a 53 hp, 132 lb-ft electric motor and an 8-speed DSG automatic transmission dispatch power to the front wheels. The rear axle is driven by a second 113 hp, 199 lb-ft electric motor .

Unleashing a total of 262 ponies, the Volkswagen Crosse Coupé can reach a top speed of 201 km/h, bound from 0 to 100 km/h in 7 seconds and travel up to 45 km in electric mode. It also sips an exemplary 2.7L/100km (according to the New European Driving Cycle).

The Volkswagen Cross Coupé can accommodate four people in its sturdy yet refined cabin, each in their own bucket seat. Cargo space is evaluated at 380 litres behind the rear seats. Flip them down, and that number jumps to 1,230 litres.

The automaker says the concept “stands for the future of SUV design at Volkswagen.”
