Here’s another big SUV that, like its Mazda rival, has opted for a 4-cylinder turbo engine. The new 2019 Subaru Ascent, however, sticks with brand tradition in using a flat engine like other Subarus on the market. The 2.4L 4-cylinder turbo is actually the most modern unit to be found in the carmaker’s lineup, and in teaming up with a well-calibrated CVT, this big Subaru has what it takes to look other utility models in the segment straight in the eye.
From our review:
“The SUV was released last year and will allow the Japanese automaker to offer a product to Subaru loyalists who have owned an Outback or a Forester, but now need more space. In years prior, these people had to go to Honda (Pilot), Toyota (Highlander) or Mazda (CX-9), for example. Today, they can stay in the Subaru family.”
