Conclusion
But also:
It's our future and that of our children and grandchildren that we are talking about. Let's be serious... we also have our word to say.
I think that this crisis is paradoxical in which it can become a gift if we know how to take advantage of it. Canada is full of resources and we can use them to switch to a post-oil era before the rest of the world. But we have to start as soon as right now. Or else, our dependency will drag us into a recession like those who are too addicted, just like our southern neighbours...
There it is. It's done.
- Unlike the other oil crisis's, this one will last. We are slowly but surely heading towards the extinction of oil and gasoline as a combustible source and, as a result, in a radical change of our lifestyles.
- Unlike the other oil crisis's, the American government who says is at war, is doing nothing to help us be more responsible towards our oil consumption. On the contrary, they encourage irresponsibility by going as far as handing out tax breaks to companies who buy SUVs that weigh over 6,000 pounds, whether the person is a construction worker or a dentist.
- Unlike the other oil crisis's, this one coincides with a new factor: global warming. Yet both Canadian and American governments aren't doing anything to encourage more and more measures to save gasoline.
But also:
- Unlike the other oil crisis's, we now have levels of education and information that make us more responsible. If governmental support is wishful, greater individual responsibility is absolutely necessary. Otherwise, we are no longer children and no longer need to be held by the hand to show us what to do.
It's our future and that of our children and grandchildren that we are talking about. Let's be serious... we also have our word to say.
