The opening round of the 6th season of the FIA World Touring Car Championship will be held once again at the Autódromo Internacional de Curitiba, Brazil.

There will be fewer cars on the grid compared to last year, but it is almost certain that ten cars will be in a position to fight for victory in Curitiba.

Seat Sport, part of the VAG group, has officially left the WTCC championship. However, the Spanish car manufacturer is still involved in the series, providing technical assistance to team Sunred, which will run four Leon Tdis for three former works Seat drivers: World Champion Gabriele Tarquini, Tiago Monteiro and Jordi Gene, who will be joined by privateer class champion Tom Coronel.

BMW has reduced his involvement, running two 320si (Farfus and Priaulx), instead of five cars last year.

Chevrolet still runs three cars, but Yvan Muller, who has moved from Seat, has replaced Nicola Larini.

Russian manufacturer Lada has postponed its season’s debuts to Marrakech, but rumours indicate that Lada could leave the series all together.

Next year, the WTCC cars will be powered by what is called a « world engine », a 1.6-litre, turbocharged motor that can be used in both the WTCC and the World Rally Championship.
