2001 BMW 330Ci - A New BMW, the Autobahn - The Perfect Recipe for Good Times
It's off to Munich to test drive the future BMW 330Ci. Along the way we'll also be taking a short spin in BMW's 330Xi four-wheel drive. I can handle that. After all, Munich is one of the greatest cities in Europe - the sights, the cars, the bratwurst. Ya, das ist eine gut idea.
My test car is a coupe, dressed in traditional silver, equipped with a manual transmission and black cloth interior - you wouldn't want to be sliding around on leather while negotiating remote mountain roads in the German back country would you?
I'm heading south on the A92, yes the Autobahn, toward the Czechoslovakian border en route to our destination - Gut Oberfrauenau, a beautiful secluded location just outside of Zwiesel. There is a choice of two routes to get there. The quickest would have us driving primarily on the Autobahn. This offers more opportunities to test the coupe at its ultimate velocity, which sounds fabulous until the second route is taken into consideration.
This course would take longer, as it is filled with twists and curves, dips, dives and climbs while it winds its way through the Bavarian mountainside. To tempt us further, its first leg would also include the stretch of autobahn that we were now enjoying. We choose the second route, for reasons easy to imagine. After all, we could enjoy the Autobahn on the return trip.
