Its multiple taillights are also vertical in design, two on the outside of the rear fenders that wrap up and over the fender while also incorporating turn signals, and the others set within the large glass liftgate. A massive panel of brushed metal trim makes a bold impression from the rear, while four rectangular tailpipes portray a powerful image.

From an aerial view, the car takes on a completely different look. A semi-transparent solar roof panel gives a bird's eye view of its unique exposed X-frame, while providing power for the Volvo Ambient Air Cleaner (VAAC). The system continually filters the air within the cabin, even when the engine isn't on.

Volvo's Barcelona, Spain and Göteborg, Sweden design teams - both were involved - did a good job of masking what could have been a very slab sided profile. Attractive style lines have been added to the rocker panel and mid-surface area, the latter a tapered crease that widens as it reaches the center of both doors. The doors themselves are clamshell-like, with those in front opening traditionally while the rears are 'suicide' style. The door handles fashionably join together at center, offering trendy B-pillarless access.
