Diesel engine now available to all

With the announcement of the updates being brought to the 2018 Land Rover Discovery, the British automaker has completed its lineup for the coming model-year.

Despite getting a major revamp just last year, the fifth-generation Discovery will receive in the new year a number of new technologies and offer new options to buyers. All 2018 model-year versions will feature the InControl Touch Pro infotainment and navigation system with 10-inch screen and 4G wireless connection. The model’s HSE and HSE Luxury trims will also get a 12.3-inch interactive TFT screen display behind the steering wheel as well as available head up display.

No design change is affecting the exterior, with the exception of a new choice of colours. On the safety front, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection will now be included as standard equipment; the system functions at speeds between 5-80 km/h.

Every 2018 Discovery, starting with the base model, can now be equipped with Land Rover’s 3.0L V6 turbo-diesel engine able to generate 254 hp and 443 lb-ft of torque. Pricing with this engine starts at $65,900. The alternative is the 3.0L supercharged V6 gasoline engine, which generates 340 hp. Slightly less expensive, it brings with it a starting price of $63,900.

Earlier this fall, Land Rover also announced changes to and pricing for its 2018 Discovery Sport and Range Rover Evoque models, as well as for the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport, each of which will include a plug-in hybrid version for 2019. And of course, the Land Rover lineup is rounded out by the all-new Range Rover Velar, which we tried out in Norway.
