2021 Compact SUV of the Year: Nissan Rogue

Once considered the bland option in the class, the Nissan Rogue can now seduce with its slightly more upscale driving experience. We're not talking about an SUV as committed to the driving experience as the Mazda CX-5, exactly. Nor does it offer as wide-ranging a product offering as the Toyota RAV4. But this new and improved Rogue was new and improved enough to make it worthy of the title this year.

We'll have to watch for the Mitsubishi Outlander next year; the new 2022 model on its way is a very close cousin of the new Nissan Rogue.

2021 Midsize SUV of the Year: Kia Telluride

Are we surprised by the Kia Telluride's presence on the top step of the podium? Absolutely not. Kia's largest vehicle is attractive, well-equipped and able to compete with luxury models. The two finalists, the Toyota Highlander and the Subaru Ascent, weren't bad choices either, but the Telluride is simply on cloud nine right now.

Now Kia needs to think about adding a more fuel-efficient powertrain to its big SUV.
