2022 Luxury Entry-Level/Compact Car of the Year: BMW 2 Series / 2 Series Gran Coupe
This really is quite amazing: the 2 Series, which, remember, is available in two very different flavours, received more votes from our panel than the benchmark of the past 30 years in the sports sedan segment, the BMW 3 Series. They were given a good run for their money by the relative upstart Genesis G70, which fully deserved to be considered in this race for excellence.
The victory came not so much on the merits of the 2 Series Gran Coupe, which did well but wasn’t the difference marker. No, what did it for the BMW entry was the 2 Series Coupe, a pure seduction machine for our panelists on its own, especially in this super-exciting M240i xDrive version, a variant quite well-adapted to year-round driving in the Great White North.

2022 Luxury Midsize Car of the Year: Genesis G80
Last year, Genesis came pretty close in this category, as we determined that the Korean automaker, while undeniably excellent in so many facets, came just short of nipping Mercedes-Benz's excellent E-Class at the finish line. The German midsize car took the trophy.
Well, the script was flipped in 2022 for Genesis’s middle child sedan, as it outpaced the BMW 5 Series in our voting. That’s no small feat.
Looking forward, will the addition of the electric version cement Genesis' position in the midsize sedan category? It's possible, but don't count the other brands out, because several great electric or electrified midsize luxury cars are coming to market in the next few months.
