Veteran Greg Pootmans won both events in Canadian Touring last weekend at the Toronto Indy, enough to take the lead of the Super Touring Standing.
The Wittmers brothers nevertheless stole the show by finishing second and third (Kuno) and fourth and second (Nick) respectively in Saturday and Sunday’s races.
Étienne Borgeat completed the podium Saturday as Ontarian Richard Broeke – then championship leader – suffered crash and mechanical problems successively.
In Touring, Anthony Rapone and Alain Lauzière once again exchanged victory as rookie Jocelyn Fecteau (Saturday) and Rapone’s teammate Scott Nicol (Sunday) completed the podiums.
Auto123.com’s Nigel Heron – a front-runner in this category – was the victim of an engine failure during Saturday’s race.
Pootmans now lead the ST championship as Rapone conserve lead of the Touring class.
The CTCC drivers get back on track on July 25th and 26th at the Calabogie Motorsports Park.
