Bruno Spengler (C Class Mercedes) was again dominant in qualifying at Lausitzring, as the Canadian driver set his third pole position out of four race so far this season.
The Lausitzring usually fits the Mercedes cars, and especially Bruno Spengler, who won at this track one year ago. Today, the Canadian driver set a impressive performance in qualifying, as he lead his teammate Jamie Green by almost half a second.
The factory Audi A4 driven by Mattias Ekström and Team Phoenix’s 2008-spec Audi A4 of Martin Tomczyk took 3rd and 4th positions on the grid.
Tomczyk, who stands in second positions only three points behind Spengler in the standing since his victory at Spielberg, was again one of the fastest drivers at Lausitz.
Among the other drivers, Tom Kristensen (Audi) who replaces Mike Rockenfeller this weekend, set the 7th best performance. The Dane impressed on Friday when he took the top position in the first free practice session on his return in a DTM car after a one year break.
Ralf Schumacher had a very disappointing session. The German, who stands third in the championship, will start from 17th spot on the grid for tomorrow’s race.
"We struggled a bit during the free practice sessions on Friday and Saturday morning, Spengler explained. I made a small mistake on Saturday morning, which put me out of the lead.
"But then, in qualifying, everything went well, and the car was just fantastic. I was quicker session after session, and my lap in Q4 was really good. I was able to keep fresh tires, which could make a difference, but that doesn’t explain everything.
"Indeed, the Mercedes were in front today. I enjoyed the qualifying session, and I will give my best in tomorrow’s race.”
