America's largest automaker is moving into the crossover SUV market in a big
way. GM announced yesterday pricing details on its all new Acadia SUV- the first vehicle of its kind to wear a GMC badge, and the first in a lineup of crossovers which will share the same premium platform architecture.
A strategic vehicle, the Acadia will move the automakers presence forward in the family mover market which is shifting rapidly away from minivans.
"The next generation of GMC is here with the all-new Acadia," said Marc Comeau, VP of GM Canada. "The fuel-efficient crossover has a sleek, upscale design and spacious, well-appointed interior that offers all of the people and cargo-carrying capabilities that you would expect in a utility vehicle, along with the smooth ride and responsive handling that feels more like a sport sedan."
Designed to seat up to 8 adults, the Acadia offers class-leading interior
space and a well-stocked roster of standard equipment, including StabiliTrak, Onstar, dual exhaust, 18" wheels and six airbags.
Motivation comes from an all new "high feature" 3.6 litre V6 engine which employs variable valve timing to help generate 275 horsepower, while achieving a claimed 8.3 L / 100km in highway fuel mileage. Power is delivered to the front (or optionally to all four) wheels via a six-speed automatic gearbox.
Pricing opens at $36,495 for a front wheel drive model, and $39,495 for an all wheel drive model. Expect GM's hot new crossover to be available in dealerships by the end of December.
