The IZOD IndyCar Series' teams got what they wanted on Sunday at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway when it was confirmed that the oval and road/street course bodywork would remain unchanged with the next generation car in 2012.
The series was answering to the main concern of the teams regarding the cost of the new alternative aero kits to be introduced at the same time as the new chassis.
"It is important that we maintain a high car count next year by ensuring we have cost containment for our teams. We must listen to our team owners and try to help," said IndyCar CEO Randy Bernard.
"We don't want to see our car counts go from 26 and 27 down to 16 because of the aero kits. The manufacturers have told us it's very expensive and the team owners have told us it's very expensive."
The new aero kits should be introduced in 2013, when the teams will have had time to adjust to the new chassis and engine still coming up next year.
"Quality and price are the primary objectives of everything we put on this car," concluded Bernard.
