North American Utility of the Year finalist: Jaguar I-PACE
“An able electric SUV that does its job, with style and verve.” That was the first thing we wrote about Jaguar’s I-PACE crossover when we got a first chance to drive it earlier this summer in Portugal. Fast forward to now, as we near the end of a banner year for new SUV models, and we learn that Motor Trend has thought enough of it to place it in the top three from an intimidating list of entrants (see previous section on the RDX).
We, and a lot of other folks, fell in love pretty much right away with the exterior contours of the I-PACE, which came courtesy of Ian Callum and his design team at the British automaker.
And yet, for all its gorgeous good looks, it’s on the road and in movement that it shines brightest. Demonstrating exemplary poise, balance and rigidity, the I-PACE handles well on even highly pockmarked road surfaces, and makes an eloquent case for all-electric performance cars going forward.
