As well as bringing out the entry-level V40 station wagon next year, Volvo Canada will also bring out "the best Volvo wagon ever made" at the other end of the price scale.
Look for the currently unnamed wagon to appear at the Detroit auto show in January, make a live appearance at the Toronto show in February, and be in dealer showrooms by April.
That, incidentally, will mean the upscale wagon will debut before the $30,000-something V40 wagon and its S40 sibling by a few months.
Volvo Canada's Larry Futers makes the point that this wagon will not be a derivative of a sedan model (meaning it's not exactly a V80), that it's "designed exclusively as a versatile wagon," and that as well as being the best Volvo wagon ever, "it will also be the safest and most versatile."
Not much is known about the new car's style, though an official photo of the rear end displays a look more in keeping with the V70 (formerly the 850 wagon) than with the S80 upscale sedan.
Futers says the new model will "feature an extensive array of Volvo-pioneered safety innovations and new technologies," such as the world's first rear-facing ISOFIX child safety seat and its dual-stage airbag.
The new wagon will also enhance interior air quality for passengers, Futers says, with improvements to the materials used inside the car as well as systems for filtering and monitoring the in-coming air.
