NEW YORK CITY, New York– Lexus revealed its LF-Gh hybrid concept to the media the night before its official world debut at the New York International Auto Show.

Under icy blue spotlights, the LF-Gh was unveiled in a 4th-floor spartan studio, ice sculptures and impossibly pretty young waiters bearing tiny, perfect hors-d'oeuvres created by "Iron Chef" Masaharu Morimoto its only decor.

The press material makes repeated use of the word "bold" and indeed, viewed head-on, the grille and fascia present an aggressive face that's a refreshing departure from Lexus's rather conservative image. Wraparound taillights jazz up its substantial rump. Its side profile, however, remains unmistakably Lexus sedan.

The concept has lofty goals of "redefining the premium grand touring sedan" by blending such contradictory characteristics as style and functionality. The LF-Gh's wide stance, LED lighting and spindle-shaped grille represent the latest interpretation of Lexus's L-Finesse design language and a hint of Lexus vehicles to come.

The dramatic fascia consists of L-shaped LED running lights that will undoubtedly find their way onto future production cars. The play of spotlights dramatically accentuated the sharply-defined creases and aggressively sculpted air inlets – which channel cooling air through the brake ducts. Chrome is used sparingly, which is more than offset by huge, 20-inch bling-bling rims.

Black-tinted glass made viewing the interior impossible, but Lexus claims the cabin is driver-oriented, intuitive yet luxurious, boasting the genuine, premium materials expected in a full-fledged grand touring sedan.

We didn't get a chance to see what lies under that carved hood, but the Blue LED badges fore and aft mark the LF-Gh Concept as a Lexus Hybrid Drive vehicle.
