The Pathfinder Armada Will Go On Sale in the Fall of 2003 as a 2004 Model

Do you think the Big 3 in Detroit are starting to take notice of Japan's number two automaker? Look at how their Infiniti division has dethroned BMW from top sports sedan and coupe status over the last year and most recently how they've toppled Lexus in the sales charts.

But Chrysler, Ford and GM aren't in direct competition with Nissan are they? Not traditionally, but now that the brand's full-size Titan pickup is on the way, treading heavily on sacred ground, they've got to be paying attention. It's not like the newcomer will immediately walk in to take top spot away from Ford's F-150, but its rise to greatness is a sure thing over a matter of time.

What's next for Nissan? A new Pathfinder is on the way. But this one resembles the current SUV in name only. The 2004 Pathfinder Armada is full-size, 8-occupant and V8 powered. It rides on the Titan's underpinnings, for the most part, and will also share its platform with a new full-size Infiniti sport utility.

The artist's rendering shown offers a sneak peak at the new truck's expected styling. It pulls some design cues from the current Xterra SUV and Frontier pickup as well as reference to the new Titan, but for the most part is a refreshingly new design. Look for the real thing to debut in April at the New York International Auto Show, prior to going on sale this coming fall as a 2004 model.

The Pathfinder Armada, full-size Infiniti SUV and Titan pickup will be built beside the all-new Quest minivan and Altima sedan at Nissan's new facility in Canton, Miss.
