It’s no secret that wagons are having trouble making a name for themselves in Canada and the US, several automakers having decided to pull out of this unprofitable market. Whether you like them or not, you certainly wont’ remain indifferent to the Peugeot HX1 set to hit the stage in Frankfurt.

A perfect blend of athleticism, functionality and green technologies, the HX1 is built on a monocoque frame and boasts fluid lines. Peugeot’s engineers put aerodynamics first and managed to create a drag coefficient of just 0.28.

The power train consists of a 204-hp, 2.2-litre heat engine driving the front wheels, a 95-hp electric engine driving the rear wheels and a six-speed manual transmission.

This configuration allows for a range of 30 km in electric mode only and the use of an all-wheel drive manhandled by 299 ponies when conditions get tougher.

Peugeot claims that tranquil driving will burn just 3.2 litres of fuel per 100 km.

Suicide doors open wide and allow easy access to the cabin, worthy of a minivan. Three rows of seats, including a fold-down middle row, welcome passengers aboard.
