Mr. Leno has already ordered one to sit alongside his classic model. However, I believe his new purchase will possibly get a tad more use, because the new Morgan 3 is not so much a re-creation, but rather a complete reinvention of a much-loved design. Yes, it may appear similar to the original design and, in the right color, a lay person might have difficulty telling them apart.
However, this new vehicle boasts a 2.0L S&S V-twin which produces 120 hp at the wheels and propels this 500-kg aircraft-bodied tricycle from 0-60 mph in just 4.5 seconds. Utilizing a 5-speed Mazda gearbox, which for the first time features a reverse gear (the original models never came with such), the vehicle is now capable of achieving a top speed of 115 mph.
Now that may not sound like a record-breaking number to you, but trust me, in a vehicle like this, that's going to feel somewhat like running the Indy 500 whilst sitting on a motorized skateboard!
Personally, I love the idea of this new Morgan. It's a vehicle capable of transporting us back to the glory days of motoring, when it was simply man and machine against the elements and the road which lay ahead. Back to the days when the thrill of speed didn't necessitate the likely loss of your driving privileges, as doing 50 mph felt like you were going 100 and then some!
In fact, if only a few more car manufacturers would view life in the way Morgan does, we could get back to a time when driving was a pleasurable and exhilarating experience rather than simply a way of getting from A to B.
Sadly, there are no plans to bring the Morgan 3 to Canada at this time... We can only hope!
