2003 Infiniti Triant Concept - An Exquisite Piece of Automotive Futurism

Only a couple of years ago Nissan's upscale Infiniti division found itself in the depths of automotive obscurity, despite producing well made, performance-oriented sedans and SUVs for over ten years. What was the problem? That depends on which market analyst you talk to. Some say it was due to derivative styling, others brand mismanagement. Most everyone agrees that their marketing got off to a bad start right from the beginning.
But all that's in the past. Today, led by a host of dynamic new models that started with the current Q45, continued with the class leading G35 and now includes the new G35 Sport Coupe, M45 sedan and upcoming FX45 SUV, Infiniti is on a charge only rivaled by parent company Nissan. It's one of few automakers that Canadian market analysts predict will gain in market share during 2003.

Showing a justifiable confidence Infiniti proudly revealed its latest statement of design and engineering at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit on the morning of January 6. Combining all of the elements that currently make the Japanese company's products so desirable, the Triant concept teases us further with an all-weather sport-oriented driving experience on or off the road, revolutionary interior design, top-tier luxury features and tomorrow's technology in an intriguing 2+2 sport coupe package.
Nissan dubs the Triant's styling theme as "muscular proportion." Its front fascia is absolutely fluid, with only two rectangular air vents breaking up the flowing lines. Above the bumper an FX45-style grille incorporates four chrome ribs and a large Infiniti badge front and center. It sits amid a pair of inward angled 3-lens headlamp clusters that follow the lines of the sculpted hood and fenders.
