Volkswagen I.D. Buzz Cargo
VW’s ID concepts have been doing the rounds in the past few months, and we’ve yet to see any of them reach the production phase. But one of them will be at Los Angeles in the flesh, so our hopes are officially up. But it’s isn’t the I.D. Crozz SUV, the I.D. Vizzion sedan or even the I.D. Buzz minivan that will there. Rather, we’re going to meet the I.D. Buzz Cargo, a commercial version of the Buzz concept that was first unveiled in Hanover earlier this year.
The concept version can swallow up a ton of cargo, but more importantly it has an electric range of about 600 km when equipped with a 111 kWh battery pack (it can also be had with a 48-kWh battery pack; in this case we expect the range to be less than 300 km).
This will certainly catch the interest of businesses with truck fleets that are on the road most of every day. But before they, and we, get too excited, we should note that VW doesn’t expect it to be ready to come off assembly lines until 2021.
