The big news this year is the arrival of revised Kona and Santa FE SUVs

THE SUVS/CROSSOVERS

Hyundai Kona

The Kona gets all-new styling for 2024, adding a full-width front light bar, full-width taillight bar and more interior and cargo room. It’s also longer, taller, wider and has a longer wheelbase than before, resulting especially in more back-seat room and more cargo space.

There’s also more interior tech, with Hyundai’s latest infotainment interface taking centre stage with a wider screen measuring up to 12.3-inch and a faster operating system. There’s support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which get a wireless connection on some models. The top-spec Ultimate models (other trims include Essential, Preferred and N-Line) get a 360-degree parking camera, which is a first for the Kona.

Two engines are offered: a 2.0L 4-cylinder engine good for 147 hp and 132 lb-ft of torque, and a 1.6L turbo motor good for 190 hp and 195 lb-ft for the N-Line. For 2024, the Kona is available with either FWD or AWD, while all models get an 8-speed automatic as standard.

Hyundai Venue

Hyundai’s next-smallest crossover carries on with no changes. The Venue is available in Essential, Preferred and Ultimate trims, all powered by a 1.6L 4-cylinder making 121 hp and 113 lb-ft of torque, fed to the front wheels - there is no AWD option - through an intelligent continuously variable automatic transmission.

Hyundai Tucson

2024 sees the elimination of the Essential trim for the Tucson, making the Preferred the base trim, joining N Line, Luxury Hybrid and Ultimate Hybrid. Styling-wise, the only change is new Ultimate Red exterior colour choice replacing 2023’s Crimson Red.

Inside, we find new leatherette seating surfaces, a steering wheel with haptic feedback for lane keep assist and blind-spot warning as well as the standard fitment of intelligent speed limit assist and a 10.25-inch infotainment display.

Power comes courtesy a 2.5L 4-cylinder good for 187 hp and 178 lb-ft, hybrid powertrain good for a combined 226 hp and 259 lb-ft of torque or a plug-in hybrid making 261 hp and 268 lb-ft. AWD is standard, while hybrids get a 6-speed auto transmission and gas models an 8-speed.

Hyundai Santa Fe

The Santa Fe is all new for 2024, and with it comes completely new squared-off styling that looks unlike any other vehicles in the lineup. There’s more room inside as a result – three rows of seating is standard – and despite its new shape it has a lower coefficient of drag and runs more quietly as a result.

Styling details include optional 21-inch wheels – a Santa Fe first – as well as a host of “H” motifs throughout, such as on the LED DRLs and taillights. An off-road-spec XRT trim is all-new for 2024, and it adds plastic fender cladding and large 30-inch off-road tires.

Inside, we find the faster infotainment system shared with the Kona, dual wireless charge pads (and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto), available digital rear-view mirror, dual-tier gearbox and a trick front armrest storage cubby that can be accessed from either the front or second rows.

Power comes from a 2.5L turbo 4-cylinder gas engine good for 277 hp and 311 lb-ft paired with an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission, as well as a 1.6L turbo four plus EV motor (hybrid) good for 232 hp and 271 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 6-speed automatic. The Santa Fe is available only with AWD.

Hyundai Palisade

Minimal changes to Hyundai’s biggest SUV for 2024. The Urban trim (only two are available: Urban, and Urban Calligraphy) now gets black roof rails and body-coloured exterior door handles are available on both trims.

Power comes from a single engine choice: a 3.8L V6 good for 291 hp and 262 lb-ft of torque, sent to all four wheels via an 8-speed auto transmission.

THE (ONE) PICKUP

Hyundai Santa Cruz

Available in Preferred and Ultimate trims, Hyundai’s crossover-based pickup gets few changes for 2024. The naturally aspirated 4-cylinder motor available in the US still hasn’t come to Canada, leaving just the 2.5L turbo 4-cylinder unit good for 281 hp and 311 lb-ft of torque. That power gets sent to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic with manual mode.

The only notable change for 2024 comes in the form of a 20-inch wheel choice for the Trend package and Ultimate trim, while other changes include new leatherette seating surfaces, vibrating steering wheel for lane keep assist and blind spot warning and wider availability of rain-sensing wipers.
