On the sidelines of the Los Angeles Auto Show, in the courtyard of a posh LA hotel, Infiniti unveiled its brand-new luxury sedan, the M, a new interpretation of the values of the Japanese brand.

“It combines both the innovative technology and the spirit that guide the development of Infiniti. We are a true global brand but we are still young, and we are working to establish our personal heritage. By drawing inspiration from spiritual values, we are creating our own design history, one that is specific to the brand,” explained Shiro Nakamura, Vice-President in charge of design.

Tradition and Inspiration
From a purely aesthetic point of view, the new M luxury sedan features fluid, supple and refined lines. The rear half, more slender that its predecessor, is slightly elevated, while the front fascia, featuring the same curves as the former version, plunges downward in an aerodynamic display.

“We always work with five core values when it comes to design: energetic force, spiritual precision, seductive lustre, dignified air and artistic resonance. On their own, these values have little significance, but together, they enable us to create a car that asserts its personality on first glance. And that’s exactly what we wanted to do with the new M,” said Bruce Campbell, head of Nissan Design of the Americas, earlier in the afternoon.

The cabin also features the broad lines of the Infiniti tradition, while drawing inspiration from the dual-space concept introduced by the company: one for the driver and one for the passenger. “Like in every Infiniti vehicle, the living environment inside the M must be comfortable and provide the occupants with their own personal space,” continued Nakamura.

Developed by Infiniti, this concept is particularly obvious inside the Essence prototype, a unique car presented at the Frankfurt Auto Show in September and that we’ll also be seeing at the Montreal and Toronto shows.

“The Essence is the ultimate expression that guides us, and it represents the future of the brand. It is the product of the same vision that inspired the M,” maintains the VP of design.
