Best compact car: Honda Civic

Who said cars were in decline? Well the numbers say so. Sales figures clearly show that cars are not only being overtaken by SUVs, they’re being crushed by them. But the downward trend in popularity doesn’t actually mean that today’s new cars are uninteresting. Quite the opposite, in fact compact sedans have never been as well-equipped, solidly designed and fun to drive as they are right now.
On the other hand, they’re maybe not the bargains they used to be either. Even the popular Honda Civic isn't quite as affordable in 2022 as in the past, its base price having jumped quite a bit. On the other, other hand, the quality of workmanship is close to that of luxury sub-brand Acura's recent-vintage new models, and the on-board equipment is more generous. The reliability of the two mechanics in the offering, as well as the improvement of the user experience, are two additional factors explaining its win in this category for 2022.
Did we mention the Civic is, still, the best-selling car in Canada, for the 24th year running? Honda Canada has just made that announcement.
Honorable mention goes to the Hyundai Elantra, which offers a wider range than the current Civic as we still await the Type R version.
