4— Volkswagen GLI and I.D. CROZZ

Volkswagen is a major player in Toronto this year, and it made its first splash with the presentation of the Volkswagen Jetta GLI. With its 2.0L GTI engine, this Jetta offers 228 hp and a promise of plenty of driving fun. To handle that power, the engine is wedded to a 7-speed automatic DSG dual clutch transmission, though for stick lovers there will be a 6-speed manual gearbox.

Another interesting change is that the rear suspension torsion beam of the regular Jetta disappears in favor of an independent multi-link suspension, while the struts at the front benefit from a sportier calibration. It’s all very promising, and we’ll get to confirm that promise soon as first GLI will be in dealerships in two weeks.

VW also presented its I.D. CROZZ, making its Canadian debut. Built on the new MEB platform specific to future electric models for the brand, the I.D. CROZZ will hit the market in 2021 as a 2022 model. According to the people at Volkswagen, this concept is visually very close to the eventual production model.
