Rivian
Rivian is a small maker of electric vehicles whose owner hails from Indian River, Florida – hence the name Rivian. You could call their specialty electric adventure trucks.
Built in Normal, Illinois, in an old Mitsubishi factory, The R1T pickup and the R1S SUV have a range up to 643 kn with a big platform on which sit the batteries. Four identical electric motors, one per wheel, function with a single-speed box. Each motor is rated for 147 kilowatts or 197 hp, which gives a combined total of 788 hp.
The motors and the battery structure are reinforced with composite materials and kevlar to help minimize damage caused by rocks and debris. In addition, that structure housing the battery is fully waterproof.
The interior is minimalist, but you do find there two large screens and tons of leather, wood and metal. In addition to a model with a 643-km range, Rivian is offering a version with a 506-km range, and a base model with a range of 370 km. Starting price for a Rivian is $69,000 USD, minus the applicable incentives. The R1T pickup and the R1S SUV are expected on the market by 2021.
