Audi e-tron GT
The future range of e-tron-labeled products is starting to take shape at Audi. A first SUV, simply called the e-tron, has already been unveiled and will hit the market next year as a 2020 model. At the Los Angeles show, meanwhile, Audi unwrapped a much more spectacular model, the e-tron GT. This 4-door sport coupe has a very low centre of gravity and 590 horses at its disposal. Production is set to get underway late in 2020.
Porsche and Audi worked together in developing the materials used in this car, such as weight-reducing composite body panels, as well as the electric powertrain. The concept shown in LA sits on 22-inch wheels, which are kind of impractical because of their weight, their cost (and the cost of the tires that fit on them) and their outsized dimensions. We’d be willing to wager that those will disappear from the picture by the time the production version is ready.
The 90 kWh battery pack delivers a range of more than 400 km and supplies electricity to the front and back motors; it does this quickly enough that 0-100 km/h acceleration is doable in only 3.5 seconds. If a quick charging station is at hand, the car’s 800-volt system can bring the charge up to 80% in just 20 minutes, good for a range of 200 km.
