Will 2024 be the last year for the MX-30 electric SUV?

The CX-30 returns in the same form in 2024. Like the Mazda3, it loses its base engine, the brand's long-standing 2.0L 4-cylinder. The two remaining options are the same as those available with the Mazda3. The only exception is that no CX-30 is offered with a manual gearbox.

On the other hand, all versions come with all-wheel drive as standard.

In 2024, a Suna version joins the three existing models, the GX, GS and GT.

It's worth noting that with the GS version, the Luxury Group now delivers a 10.25-inch screen for the multimedia system, with touch functions when using Apple CarPlay or Android Auto apps. New USB-C sockets are also available.

The CX-50 returns unchanged for 2024. Minor adjustments have been made to the chassis, including new shock absorbers. The electric power steering has also been recalibrated. According to Mazda, the result will be a better driving experience for both driver (feel) and passengers (comfort).

The powertrains are the same as for the first two SUV models (more power with the turbo engine - see CX-5). The naturally aspirated unit is used on the GS-L and GT versions, while the turbocharged mill is used on the GT Turbo and Meridian variants.

All models are equipped with Mazda's I-Activ all-wheel drive system.

Note that with the Meridian version, the Apex package is a proposed equipment group that includes roof-mounted black crossbars, a roof platform and front and rear mudguards. The platform allows owners to attach even more outdoor equipment, or to add a roof tent, one of the accessories offered by Mazda with this model, designed more for off-road excursions.

Aging it may be but the CX-5 continues to be the best-selling vehicle in the Mazda range. As a result, it's no surprise that it has the most varied offering, with no fewer than seven variants: GX, GS, Kuro, GT, Sport Design, Suna and Signature.

The Suna version is the latest addition to the family. This model features a zircon sand metallic pigment paint finish.

Up to and including the Sport Design variant, the engine is a 2.5L 4-cylinder offering 187 hp and 185 lb-ft of torque. Available as an option on the Sport Design model, and standard on all others, is a 2.5L turbocharged 4-cylinder with variable power depending on the type of fuel used. Note that power is 256 hp with this version, rather than 250.

For 2024, we highlight the addition of I-Stop technology. This promotes better fuel consumption. It is now estimated at 9.1L/100 km city, 7.7L/100 km highway and 8.5L/100 km combined. This represents an average improvement of 0.5L/.

As with other models, the multimedia system's 10.25-inch screen now offers touch functions with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Although it was presented in January 2023 and became available early last year, the new CX-90 is a 2024 model, and the coming year remains its official market debut.

In other words, there's absolutely nothing new about this SUV, which is available with a 3.3L turbocharged inline-6 (280, 319 or 340 hp, depending on version, and 369 lb-ft of torque), or with a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder, in plug-in hybrid configuration. In addition to its 319 hp (combined), it offers an electric range of 42 km.

Note that a new 8-speed automatic transmission is fitted to these powertrains, rather than the 6-speed unit found on all other gasoline-powered models in the range.

And the Mazda CX-70?

Before you call us out for forgetting the new CX-70, it's worth remembering that although Mazda will officially present it on January 30, we're talking about a 2025 model.

Don't look too far for big differences, however - this SUV is a shortened version of the CX-90. It will benefit from the same powertrains. More details on it are upcoming in the coming weeks.
