W12 Almighty, please step aside! Bentley is about to write a new chapter with the launch of the all-new Continental GT and GTC V8 at the 2012 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit this January.
Both models employ a direct-injected, 4.0L twin-turbocharged V8 that delivers up to 500 horsepower and 487 lb-ft of torque – enough to reach 60 mph (96 km/h) in under five seconds on the way to a top speed of 180 mph (290 km/h) – while producing a “stirring and thunderous” soundtrack.
An all-wheel drive system, advanced Torsen differential, and 8-speed automatic transmission complete the powertrain.
As potent as they may be, the Bentley Continental GT and GTC V8 will burn 40% less fuel than those equipped with the 6.0L W12 engine. How?A sophisticated variable displacement system deactivates half the cylinders under light throttle load.
While using a different engine and sporting a revised interior, the V8-powered coupe and convertible still boast the prestigious looks and exquisite materials that elevate Bentley among the automotive elite.
