Every year, the jury for the North American Car and Truck of the Year (NACTOY) awards chooses the ultimate winners in the three main automotive categories - car, truck and SUV. The first step ahead of the naming of the big winners in Detroit next January is the announcement of the semi-finalists for each category.
Between October 16 and 18, in the city of Ypsilanti, Michigan, the jury made up of North American automotive journalists (several of them Canadian) puts these semi-finalists through a series of tests to identify the finalists, which will be announced at the Los Angeles auto show at the end of November.
Then comes the crowning of the big winners in Detroit.
This year’s first list is highlighted by another, predictable battle between the Big Three American manufacturers in the pickup truck category. With only three entrants making the cut this year, all of them will automatically be finalists.
