The new small car, spec series in Canada, the Nissan Micra Cup got underway this past weekend on the gruelling Mont-Tremblant rollercoaster sited in the Quebec Laurentians.
Former Formula 1600 competitor, Olivier Bedard clinched pole position for race 1.
However, Thanaroj Tanasitnitikate, the young driver from Thailand, captured the first ever win of the new series. Jean-Michel Isabelle and Stefan Rzadzinski followed him in second and third place, respectively. Olivier Bedard, Valerie Chiasson, Abhinay Bikkani, Carl Nadeau, Valerie Limoges, Method Topolnik and Marc-Antoine Demers completed the Top 10. On Sunday, Tanasitnitikate started the second race of the meeting from pole position and scored his second win in a row. Bedard arrived home second ahead of Stefant Rzadzinski. Carl Nadeau finished in 4th place, Metod Topolnik in 5th place, place Olivier Pelletier in 6th place, automobile journalist Gabriel Gelinas in 7th place, Valerie Chiasson in 8th place, Valerie Limoges in 9th place and Paul Dargis came in 10th. The next race will be held during the Formula 1 Grand prix du Canada in Montreal in just two weeks.
